United Capital Plc, one of Africa’s foremost financial services institutions and an ardent proponent of financial inclusion, launched its Back-to-School campaign to promote financial literacy among children in Nigeria.

The campaign kicked off with a financial literacy workshop for children titled ‘Money Savvy Kid’. The initiative was inspired by an urgent need to bridge the financial literacy gap in Nigeria with the sole aim of fostering a thriving economy. The free workshop which held simultaneously at the United Capital Head Office and virtually via Zoom, was highly coveted by parents, drawing over a thousand children across Nigeria and beyond. The session served as a learning experience for the children (ages 7-12), preparing them to be financially responsible adults in the future by teaching the fundamentals of financial planning and money management such as budgeting, saving, and investing. Afterwards, the kids explored a simulated grocery store, where they were taught the value of money as well as the concept of demand and supply.

Speaking about the event, Group CEO, United Capital Plc, Peter Ashade, said “Financial literacy is a powerful skill that should be in every child’s toolbox and instilled in them from a young age. It should also be included in the curriculum of every educational institution because it has been repeatedly shown to be a key determinant and driving force of financial inclusion. We at United Capital Plc are dedicated to promoting the development of a financially literate population because we believe it is a pathway to securing economic power in Nigeria and Africa at large.”

In furtherance to its objective of providing financial freedom, United Capital Plc will be awarding 3 participants of the financial literacy workshop with N150,000, N100,000, and N50,000 to encourage them to put their newly acquired financial skills to great use. In addition, one participant will be provided the opportunity to assume the office of CEO of United Capital Plc for one day, in a bid to encourage them to set lofty goals and ambitions for themselves.
