Every year, Nigerians lose billions to investment fraud. Not because they are careless. Because scammers are good at what they do.

They speak your language. They show up on platforms you trust. They use names that sound familiar sometimes even ours.

Here is how to tell the difference.

1. The returns are unrealistic

   Guaranteed returns. No risk. Double your money in 30 days etc. Legitimate investments do not work this way. Every real investment carries some level of risk, anyone telling you otherwise is lying to you.

2. There is pressure to act fast

   “This offer closes tonight.” “Only 5 slots left.” Urgency is a weapon. Scammers use it to stop you from doing your research. A real investment opportunity will still be there tomorrow.

3. They cannot show you the paperwork

   Every legitimate investment product in Nigeria is registered with the SEC. Ask for the registration number. Ask for the prospectus. If they hesitate, walk away.

4. They found you – you did not find them

   Unsolicited DMs, WhatsApp broadcasts, cold calls promising life-changing returns. Real investment firms do not operate this way. We do not either.

5. They impersonate a real firm
