United Capital Plc, a leading Pan-African investment banking and financial services group, today announced its unaudited results for the half-year ended June 30, 2026, posting one of its strongest first-half performances on record and further widening the gap between the Group and its peers across the continent’s financial services landscape.
As Africa’s first investment bank to list on the Nigerian Exchange and a diversified group spanning investment banking, asset and wealth management, securities trading, trusteeship, consumer lending, and microfinance banking, United Capital continues to convert its category-leading brand position into measurable financial results. Gross earnings rose 58% year-on-year to ₦37.49 billion, while profit before tax climbed 80% to ₦24.78 billion and profit after tax grew 77% to ₦21.10 billion, underscoring the strength and diversification of the Group’s business model.
The Group’s balance sheet also strengthened considerably, with shareholders’ funds growing 25% year to date to ₦187.09 billion and managed funds rising 4% to ₦1.04 trillion, even as total assets settled at ₦1.64 trillion. Earnings per share advanced 77% to 234 kobo, from 132 kobo in the corresponding period of 2025, while net assets per share rose 25% to ₦10.39.
In recognition of this performance and in line with the Group’s commitment to sustained shareholder value, the Board of Directors has approved an interim dividend of ₦5.4 billion, representing 30 kobo per ordinary share of 50 kobo each, subject to applicable withholding tax.
Commenting on the results, Mr Peter Ashade, Group Chief Executive Officer, United Capital Plc, said,
“These results reaffirm what our clients and shareholders already know: that United Capital is the pacesetter for investment banking and financial services in Africa. We have consistently set the standard for the industry, and our first half of 2026 performance, an 80% growth in profit before tax and a 58% rise in gross earnings, shows that this leadership position continues to translate into superior, sustainable returns. We are not simply growing alongside the market; we are shaping it through disciplined execution, a diversified and resilient business model, and an unrelenting focus on delivering value to every stakeholder we serve. As we move into the second half of the year, our priority is to further entrench our market leadership, deepen our retail footprint, expand our Pan-African presence, and continue setting the pace for what a modern African financial services group should be.”
The half-year performance was broad-based. Net operating income grew 55% year on year to ₦33.05 billion, while earnings per share advanced 77% to 234 kobo from 132 kobo in the corresponding period of 2025, and net assets per share rose 25% to ₦10.39. Growth was driven by strong gains across fee and commission income, net investment income, and net trading income, reflecting the diversified, multi-subsidiary model that has long set United Capital apart from its peers in the market.
The Group’s category leadership was further reinforced during the quarter through two notable strategic moves. United Capital acquired a 5% equity stake in Nigerian Exchange Group Plc (NGX), deepening its ownership position in the very market it pioneered as the first investment bank to list on the Exchange, and reaffirming its role as both a builder and a beneficiary of Nigeria’s capital markets infrastructure.
United Capital also advanced its Pan African expansion drive during the quarter, securing regulatory licences to operate in Ethiopia and Rwanda. These approvals extend the Group’s investment banking, asset management and wealth management franchise into two new African markets, building on its presence across the continent and strengthening its position as the region’s pacesetting financial services group.
United Capital enters the second half of 2026 from a position of category strength, with a fortified balance sheet, growing managed funds of ₦1.04 trillion and an expanding Pan African footprint, as the Group continues to press its advantage as the continent’s leading and most trusted investment banking brand.
