United Capital Leads the Charge for Women’s Financial Inclusion

Financial Inclusion

United Capital Group, a leading financial services institution and long-standing advocate for financial inclusion, reaffirms its commitment to empowering women through innovative initiatives. In celebration of Women’s Month, the organization has taken bold steps to accelerate financial empowerment for women across various sectors, reinforcing its position as an industry leader.

A key highlight of this year’s celebration was the release of ‘Boss Women of Isale Eko II’, a powerful sequel to last year’s groundbreaking documentary that spotlighted the resilience of female traders in Nigeria’s informal sector. While the initial documentary shed light on the challenges these women face in their daily hustle, this year’s instalment went even further, in line with the IWD 2025 theme, Accelerate Action. United Capital took tangible steps by providing seed funding to these traders to help them scale their businesses and kickstart their financial journeys. The documentary has since received rave reviews online, even capturing the attention of creative critics, demonstrating the depth and impact of the story.

Beyond storytelling, United Capital, in demonstration of its thought leadership and industry influence, collaborated with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to host a high-level event for IWD 2025 at the SEC headquarters in Abuja. The event convened regulators, industry leaders, and key stakeholders to explore concrete ways to accelerate women’s financial inclusion, reinforcing the firm’s commitment to shaping policies that drive systemic change.

United Capital’s commitment to women’s empowerment extends beyond external engagements, it is deeply rooted in the organization’s internal culture. In a bold and rare move, the company hosted an exclusive women-only town hall for its female employees. At a time when many organizations shy away from addressing gender-specific workplace challenges head-on, the Group provided a safe space for women within the company to openly discuss their experiences and propose actionable steps that would be presented to management for real change.

Speaking on the company’s dedication to women’s empowerment, Group CEO, Peter Ashade emphasized the company’s belief in the transformative power of women, saying, “At United Capital, we do not just advocate for women’s financial inclusion; we take decisive steps to make it a reality. Women are the backbone of our organization, with powerhouse leaders heading three of our subsidiary businesses and holding key management positions. From advancing financial literacy to providing direct financial support for female entrepreneurs and fostering an inclusive workplace, we are dedicated to equipping women with the tools and opportunities they need to succeed.”

Beyond storytelling, United Capital has consistently been at the forefront of actionable financial inclusion. As one of the first investment management firms in Nigeria to launch a mutual fund dedicated to women, the Wealth for Women Fund, the company has empowered countless women to actively invest towards retirement and build financial security over the years. Additionally, through the #ThisGirlInvests initiative, the company has championed financial literacy for women, helping them understand the importance of investing and wealth creation, particularly in the capital markets.

As Women’s Month comes to a close, United Capital remains resolute in its commitment to advancing women’s financial empowerment. The firm intends to do even more in this space, recognizing that women are, and will continue to be, instrumental in building a resilient and thriving economy in Nigeria.
